Bad news- part 2

Well I talked to my doctor today and they scheduled me Monday for the nuc. test. I asked about the nodules because I wanted to know if they are fluid filled or solid. (thank you whoever posted that comment on that). They said the ultra sound did not show it to be fluid filled. I will have to get it out as it is pressing on my windpipe or something along those lines as I have a hard time breathing in. They told me it was over 1cm. Ugh. But I am just going to hurry and get it taken care of so I can go on with my life. It is always something. Just one of those things you have to go thru. People will love it when I have to be quiet for a couple days. lol

The nuclear test is used to determine if nodule has lesser activity then thyroid -“cold”; same activity—“warm” or increased activity –“hot”. In most cases hot nodules are almost always benign, however presence of hot nodule of 1 cm size and larger causes hyperthyroidism [but sometimes the activity of thyroid can still be at high side of normal range as hot nodule can cause “shut-down” of the rest of the thyroid].
If nodules are warm, the TSH suppression with Syntroid can be attempted, but only 30% of the nodules responded to this treatment.
The “complex” type of the nodule, the micro calcification, the blood flow inside the nodule and irregular borders of it are increasing risk of cancer to 25%.(AACE,2006)
