Well I have a story to tell..... I had surgery last March and we had saved money to get a laptop so that during that time I would have something to keep me occupied. So when I started feeling good enough to go out we went to Best Buy to buy a laptop. My brother helped us. I loved this laptop. It was a bit more than I wanted to spend but it had everything I wanted on it, plus it was really fast. It ended up being a really good investment. Plus it is the one thing I use constantly every day. I just brought it to my parents house on Easter for my brother to down load some pictures on it.
Monday I had a really bad day at work. No particular reason just one of those days. I got home and told my husband I wasn't in a very good mood so I was going straight to bed. Went in the bedroom and my foot got caught in my laptop cord and it went flying off my dresser right onto the floor. I can still see it as if it just happened this second. It was like in slow motion. I tried to grab it. Well the screen cracked. It is the new liquid crystal screen and it cracked all over. It turned on but you cannot see anything but a lot of pretty colors. I was so horrified at what happened. I just cried and fell asleep. I felt like my right arm was missing as I am always on my laptop. I got up the next morning and called Hewlett Packard to see what they could do and how much it would cost me to get it fixed. I knew getting a new screen was around 500.00 but I had to try. I had a gentlemen help me and his english was not so good. He told me that he had to write things down first then type them into the computer because he was learning how to write english and couldn't type directly into the computer yet. So this was a long drawn out process. He said my warranty was still in effect for 17 more days but it did not cover my screen. He checked how much it would be and he came back on the line and said it would be 98.00. I was shocked and told him so. I told him everywhere else it was around 500.00. I repeated the 98.00 again and he said yes, so I told him that I would authorize the 98.00 to get it fixed. I was excited. He took my credit card number and in a few mins he said it would not authorize my card. I asked him if he was sure and he said he had tried again. So I gave him my other credit card. In the meantime my husband chats me on the computer saying there are charges in our account. So I tell the guy hang on a second and I got on our bank site and there was a charge from hp for 429.89 and 3 more for 1.00. Now mind you I have been on my cell phone for 1 hr at this point. He is confused and said no I didn't. So I asked to speak to the manager. He gets me to his supervisor and his supervisor says that my other card says its not authorized too. I had a really hard time understanding him also because of the thick accent so it took a bit to talk to him. but I told him I wanted him to take the charges off the account of 429.89 and the other ones. He didn't understand what was going on with the account so he said he would have to transfer me to his boss. He finally transferred me and at that point I had been on the phone for and hour and 45 mins. His boss lets me know his name is Rodney and gives me his contact phone number and hours and a case number and then says that he was told that I wanted him to push an amount thru my account because my bank would not authorize it. I said no and told him what happened. He said that the amount of 429.89 is correct for the repair. I was shocked and said no the first guy told me 98.00. I told him that I repeated it to him several times and then said I would authorize the 98.00 charge. I told him he needed to check the phone tapes and listen to them. He put me on hold and when he came back on the line he said that they will honor the 98.00 he promised me. They didn't know where he got that price at. I was so relieved. He said he would credit my account and send me a box to put my laptop in and call fedex and they will pick it up. What a day. I was glad HP honored the price they gave me. So I am going to be so lonely without my laptop for a while. I am using our old desk model now. So in hind site I wished I would have bought the best buy insurance that they always offer you there. (which I used to think was a scam). If I would have had it I would have gotten up the next day to go to Best Buy and they would have given me a new laptop. So I think I will invest in the insurance on certain things the next time.

Sorry to hear about your laptop woes...hope all is resolved soon and you get the laptop back in 'good as new' condition.
Wow, what a story! You handled it very smartly though, glad you stuck to your guns about the price he quoted you for the repair. Hope it comes back soon. This is just one of life's bumps in the road! Aunt Di
uuughh! I bet you were so frustrated, especially spending all that time on the phone with someone who doesn't speak good English! Glad you've got it all worked out and hopefully you'll have your "right arm" back soon!:)Love the recent pics of Brady, too! What a cutie pie he is!
